From the 6th to 7th of February 2024, the LUCRA partners met in the beautiful city of Madrid (Spain) for their second project meeting in Month 8 of the project. The meeting was organized by the project partner FCC Medio Ambiente and took place in their headquarters in Las Tablas, Madrid.
During the one-and-a-half-day meeting, LUCRA partners presented the achievements and progress of the different work packages. The consortium discussed the next steps, upcoming actions and future activities. In the afternoon of the first day, all participants had the opportunity to visit the biomethanisation plant „Las Dehesas“ outside of Madrid, learning about the pretreatment process of the organic fractions of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) to generate prehydrolysates. The process starts with removal of the plastic waste and grinding of the organic waste fraction. In the project‘s value chain a hydrolysis process takes place to release the nutrients and sugars in the biomass to make them available for the fermentation step.
The optimization of the organic biowaste collection, storage and supply is a main project objective as well as the optimization of the hydrolysis process. This will be further investigated by the LUCRA partners.
The second day of the meeting included several work package presentations and break-out sessions to allow discussions between the partners of the individual work packages.
Thank you very much to our partner FCC Medio Ambiente for hosting our second project meeting in Madrid. The whole consortium is looking forward to the next steps and challenges of the project.
